GOLF TOURNAMENT ANNOUNCED

LANCASTER, Pa. July 8, 2009- Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Vision Impaired (SABVI) and Susquehanna Foundation for the Blind (SFB) proudly announce that the 7th annual Swing for Sight golf tournament will take place on Monday, September 21, 2009 at Conestoga Country Club.

The event will be emceed by Joe Calhoun, WGAL-8 Meteorologist, and will feature golfers from the Middle Atlantic Blind Golf Association. Swing for Sight is distinct from other tournaments because all players are given the opportunity to play through a hole and talk with a golfer who is blind.

Among other prizes and raffle items, an auction will be held for a golfers’ getaway to world renowned Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan! Air and lodging are included. Those interested in the auction do not need to play to participate.

Swing for Sight raises funds for SABVI and SFB to continue services for the blind and vision impaired in the Lancaster, Lebanon, Northeast Philadelphia and Somerset (Pa.) areas.  All players must be registered to play, and cost per player is $125. Lunch and dinner will be provided. The tournament is a scramble format with a shotgun start at 12:00 noon.

Sponsorship opportunities are available at all levels, starting at $100. Those interested in learning more about sponsorship or participating should contact Megan Sofilka by calling 717.393.5894. Players may also register online at

SABVI aims to serve those with vision impairments located in the Lancaster, Lebanon and Somerset Counties and the Northeast Philadelphia area through: early childhood education, rehabilitation services, employment opportunities, and prevention/awareness programming. SABVI’s Lancaster facility also houses the Steinman Eye Clinic which provides diagnostic eye care services at a need-based minimal charge.

SFB is dedicated to raising funds for SABVI and its affiliated agencies, as well as creating breakthrough opportunities in education and employment for Americans who are blind in Pa. and surrounding states.
